Blue Lullabies
One of the latest cycle films done at AFI Conservatory
The film is about a girl name Celeste having the power to put people to sleep with her blue tears
‘Blue Lullabies” was a different challenge. A difficult to watch parent-child drama about a caretaking daughter in a distressing but necessary relationship with her mentally challenged senior mother. Flashbacks are a key story telling technique as is the essential v.o.track from the daughter without which the we'd be lost. Ivanka manages this well. Her empathetic editing is precise and understanding, supplying a rhythm that keeps the story focused and moving along while taking the time to explore for the poignant emotional moments, supporting the drama.

Rita
Her next cycle, “Rita,” was a big step up in filmmaking and Ivanka stepped up to meet the challenge. When presented, the first cut had strong general energy and unique performances but unclear point of view in story and character, rambling structure, and an unsatisfying ending. Ivanka's intelligent editing corralled and honed the performances to expose the emotional through line, firmly focusing the story and structure around the Marilyn/Rita point of view. This helped realize the complex dramatic moments and deliver a poignant ending to this now engaging and entertaining cycle film.
